The Canadian Foundation for the Development of Microscopy (CFDM) has selected winners of the inaugural Misa Hayashida memorial scholarship and the 2025 travel bursary competitions.
CFDM is a charitable organization promoting development of microscopy and associated techniques by offering bursaries for students of Canadian universities to assist with travel expenses to participate in national and international conferences and workshops.
The winner of the inaugural Misa Hayashida memorial scholarship is
Shumeng Jia, a PhD student at McGill University (Biological and Biomedical Engineering), Montreal, Quebec.
Shumeng is supervised by Prof. Natalie Reznikov.
The 2025 CFDM travel bursaries were awarded to:
Kholoud Abousalem, a PhD student at McMaster University (Chemical Engineering), Hamilton, Ontario, to attend the 2025 Microscopy Society of Canada conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Kholoud is supervised by Prof. Drew Higgins.
Patrick Kilcullen, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS, Applied Computational Imaging), Montréal, Québec, to attend the 2025 Microscopy Society of Canada conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Patric is supervised by Prof. Jinyang Liang.
Shweta Parmar, a PhD student at the University of British Columbia (Microbiology and Immunology), Vancouver, British Columbia, who attended the 2025 Gordon Research Conference on the Biology of Mycobacteria in Pomona, California.
Shweta is supervised by Prof. Elitza Tocheva.
Aida Amini, a PhD student at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, (INRS, Énergie, Matériaux et Télécommunications), Montréal, Québec, to attend the 2025 Microscopy Society of Canada conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Aida is supervised by Prof. Kenneth Beyerlein.
