Les lauréats des bourses CFDM du concours du printemps 2023 sont sélectionnés

The Canadian Foundation for the Development of Microscopy (CFDM) has selected the winners of the spring 2023 travel bursary competition.
CFDM is a charitable organization promoting development of microscopy and associated techniques by offering bursaries for students of Canadian universities to assist with travel expenses to participate in national and international conferences and workshops.

The spring 2023 CFDM travel bursaries were awarded to:

Katherine Morelli, an MD-PhD student at McGill University (Department of Biology), Montreal, Quebec, who will attend the Cellular Matters Conference 2023 in Monte Verita, Ascona, Switzerland, June 4-7, and present a poster and flash talk titled “Multivalency tunes biophysical properties of a +TIP condensate.”
Katherine is supervised by Prof. Jackie Vogel.

Joseph Deering, a postdoctoral student at McGill University (Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences), Montreal, Quebec, who will attend the joint IUMAS/MSC/FIB-SEM meeting in Banff, Alberta, June 11-16, and present a talk titled “The Three-Dimensional Structure of the Gecko Eggshell.”
Joseph is supervised by Prof. Marc D. McKee.

Alyssa Williams, a PhD student at McMaster University (School of Biomedical Engineering), Hamilton, Ontario, who will attend the joint IUMAS/MSC/FIB-SEM meeting in Banff, Alberta, June 11-16, and present a talk titled “Enhanced Visualization of Collagen Fibril and Mineral Ellipsoids in Bone Tissue Using FIB-SEM Nanotomography and Advanced Analysis Tools.”
Alyssa is supervised by Profs. Kathryn Grandfield and Nabil Bassim.

Lia Paim, a postdoctoral student at McGill University (Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology), Montreal, Quebec, who attended the Mitotic spindle: From living and synthetic systems to theory conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia, April 16-19, and presented a talk titled “The mitotic spindle protein CKAP2 regulates microtubule dynamics and ensures faithful chromosome segregation.”
Lia is supervised by Prof. Susanne Bechstedt.

Milenka Andelic, a PhD student at McMaster University (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), Hamilton, Ontario, who attended the 2023 Materials Research Society Spring Meeting in San Francisco, California, April 10-14, and presented a poster titled “Local bandgap measurement of core/shell Ge/GeSn nanowires employing electron energy loss spectroscopy in scanning transmission electron microscopy.”
Milenka is supervised by Prof. Gianluigi Botton.

Diksha Bhola, a PhD student at McGill University (Department of Plant Science), Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec, who will attend the XVI Plant Cell Wall Meeting in Malaga, Spain, June 18-22, and give a presentation titled “Role of cell wall polysaccharides in shaping the mesophyll tissue.”
Diksha is supervised by Prof. Anja Geitmann.

Jingyi Qu, a PhD student at McMaster University (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), Hamilton, Ontario, who will attend the joint IUMAS/MSC/FIB-SEM meeting in Banff, Alberta, June 11-16, and present her work on “Elucidating Structural and Chemical Modification of Ambient-Conditioned LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 with a Lithium Boron Carbon Oxide Coating with Analytical Electron Microscopy and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy.”
Jingyi is supervised by Prof. Gianluigi Botton.

Eran Ittah, a Master’s student at McGill University (Department of Bioengineering), Montreal, Quebec, who will attend the joint IUMAS/MSC/FIB-SEM meeting in Banff, Alberta, June 11-16, and present a poster titled “The Cornea Conundrum: How to Balance High Resolution and Context While Preserving Native Tissue Architecture.”
Eran is supervised by Prof. Natalie Reznikov.

Florencia Fungo, a PhD student at McGill University (Department of Chemistry), Montreal, Quebec, who will attend the Optical Probes Conference: Discovery to Application, Palm Springs, California, June 4-8, and give a presentation titled “Real-time monitoring of antibiotic-triggered lipid peroxidation in bacterial membranes.”
Florencia is supervised by Prof. Gonzalo Cosa.

Tianxiao Yang, a PhD student at McGill University (Department of Biochemistry), Montreal, Quebec, who attended the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Workshop at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, May 21-26.
Tianxiao is supervised by Prof. Alba Guarné.

Polina Beskrovnaya, a PhD student at the University of British Columbia (Department of Microbiology and Immunology), Vancouver, British Columbia, who will attend the joint IUMAS/MSC/FIB-SEM meeting in Banff, Alberta, June 11-16, and present a talk titled “Outer membrane biogenesis in Acetonema longum.”
Polina is supervised by Prof. Elitza Tocheva.

Terri Lovell, a postdoctoral student at McGill University (Department of Chemistry), Montreal, Quebec, who will attend the Optical Probes Conference: Discovery to Application, Palm Springs, California, June 4-8, and give a presentation titled “Superior Photoprotection of Cyanine Dyes with Thio-imidazole Amino Acids.”
Terri is supervised by Prof. Gonzalo Cosa.

Cécilia Brancheriau, a PhD student at Concordia University (Department of Biology), Montreal, Quebec, who attended the Quantitative Fluorescence Microscopy 2023 workshop in Bar Harbor, Maine, May 19-26.
Cécilia is supervised by Prof. Alisa Piekny.

Ameena Hashimi, a PhD student at the University of British Columbia (Department of Microbiology and Immunology), Vancouver, British Columbia, who will attend the joint IUMAS/MSC/FIB-SEM meeting in Banff, Alberta, June 11-16, and give a presentation titled “Cell Envelope Architecture of Chloroflexi Revealed by Cryo-Electron Tomography.”
Ameena is supervised by Prof. Elitza Tocheva.
