The Canadian Foundation for the Development of Microscopy (CFDM) has selected winners of the inaugural Teresa Brychcy scholarship and the 2026 travel bursary competitions.
CFDM is a charitable organization promoting development of microscopy and associated techniques by offering scholarships and bursaries to students of Canadian universities to assist with travel expenses to participate in national and international conferences and workshops.
The winner of the inaugural Teresa Brychcy scholarship is
Mohd Sarim Siddiqui, an MS student at the University of Manitoba (Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology), who will present his research at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada (MSC-SMC), Montreal, May 2026.
Sarim is supervised by Prof. Tabrez J. Siddiqui.
The 2026 CFDM travel bursaries were awarded to:
Bianca Currie, a PhD student at the University of New Brunswick (Department of Earth Sciences), who will present her research at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada (MSC-SMC), Montreal, May 2026.
Bianca is supervised by Prof. John G. Spray.
Mohammed Abrar Basha, a PhD student at the University of Manitoba (Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology), who will present his research at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada (MSC-SMC), Montreal, May 2026.
Abrar is supervised by Prof. Tabrez J. Siddiqui.
Ryan Smith, an MAS student at McMaster University (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), who will present his research at the International Symposium on Bone Histomorphometry, London, UK.

Maria Stanko, a PhD student at the University of Toronto, (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), who will present her research at the 2026 Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Scientific Methods in Cultural Heritage Research, Switzerland, July 2026 and the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada (MSC-SMC), Montreal, May 2026.
