The scholarship has been established in memory of Dr. Misa Hayashida, a talented researcher who made important contributions to development and applications of electron microscopy. Misa’s contributions to science were stopped by her passing at an early age. The scholarship aims to preserve her curious spirit and her love for scientific discovery. The initial endowment for the scholarship was provided primarily by her family, with contributions from friends and colleagues. The scholarship is financed from the interest earned on the endowment; its present monetary value is $1100 (CAD).
『林田美咲記念 研究奨励金』制度は、電子顕微鏡法の開発とその応用研究に多大な貢献をされた林田美咲博士を記念して設立されました。林田美咲博士の科学への貢献は、博士が若くして逝去されたことにより途絶えてしまいました。そのため、本研究奨励金制度は、博士の記憶（彼女の科学への好奇心と発見への情熱）を永く残すことを目的としています。本研究奨励金の初めの基金は、主に博士のご家族から、加えて博士の友人や同僚からの寄付によっています。本研究奨励金は、基金から得られる毎年の利子によってまかなわれ、現在予定されている金額は、およそ$1,100 CAD（カナダドル）です。
林田美咲 (Misa Hayashida) scholarship aims to promote connections between Microscopy Society of Canada (MSC) and Japanese Society for Microscopy (JSM). It is awarded annually to provide travel support for:
→ a student or a postdoc from Canada to attend the Japanese Society for Microscopy annual conference,
or, equally
→ a student or a postdoc from Japan to attend the Microscopy Society of Canada annual conference.
『林田美咲記念 研究奨励金』制度は、カナダ顕微鏡学会 (MSC) と日本顕微鏡学会 (JSM) の連携を促進することを目的としています。この制度に基づく奨励金は、以下の若手研究者を対象に、学会参加等の旅費支援として毎年授与されます。
→大学生・大学院生、またはポストドクターが、カナダから日本顕微鏡学会（JSM）の年次学術講演会等へ参加する場合。
または、全く同様に、
→大学生・大学院生、またはポストドクターが、日本からカナダ顕微鏡学会（MSC）の年次学術講演会等へ参加する場合。
Submission and selection 応募と選考
An abstract for the MSC or JSM conference must be submitted by the regular submission deadline of the MSC and JSM conferences.
MSC 学術講演会等、または JSM学術講演会等の講演要旨は、MSC および JSM の学術講演会の通常の提出期限までに提出される必要があります。
Scientific quality of the abstract is the only evaluation criteria.
その講演要旨は、科学的（学術的）レベルのみにより評価されます。
Development of new methods in electron and ion microscopy and new applications of the developed methods are eligible.
本研究奨励金制度が対象とする分野は、電子顕微鏡やイオン顕微鏡における新しい手法の開発、および開発された手法の新しい応用です。
A ½ to 1 page curriculum vitae, including a short vision statement, must be provided to the conference organizers who then forward the application (abstract and curriculum vitae) to Canada Foundation for Development of Microscopy (CFDM) administering the scholarship. CFDM collects submissions from both Japan and Canada and selects the winner. CFDM informs the winner and the conference organizers, and delivers the full amount of the award for the year to the winner. The winner and conference organizers must be informed a minimum of four weeks before the conference start day. CFDM is allowed, and encouraged, to seek scientific input from subject experts for the submitted abstracts.
本研究奨励金への応募者は、短い研究への抱負と履歴書を含む半ページから１ページの申請書を学術講演会の主催者に提出しなければなりません。学術講演会の主催者は、提出された申請書を、本奨励金を管理するカナダ顕微鏡開発財団注（CFDM）に転送します。カナダ顕微鏡開発財団 （CFDM）は、日本とカナダの両方から応募を集め、本奨励金の授与を受ける者を選定します。CFDMは、授与を受ける者と学術講演会の主催者に選定結果を通知するとともに、授与を受ける者にその年の奨励金全額を支払います。授与を受ける者と講演会主催者へは、少なくとも講演会が開始される４週間前までに通知される必要があります。CFDMは、提出された要旨についてその分野の専門家から科学的な意見を求めることが許可・推奨されます。
注：CFDMとはMSCの賞と奨学金を管理する MSC の１部門。
The winning abstract and the short CV with vision statement will be published in the bulletin of the MSC, on the MSC website, and in the MSC social media.
奨励金の授与が決まった講演要旨と研究への抱負を含む受領者の短い履歴書は、MSCの会報、MSCのウェブサイト、およびMSCのソーシャルメディアに掲載される予定です。
Eligibility 資格
Graduate students, undergraduate students or postdoctoral fellows within 7 years of graduation are eligible. The applicants must be based at an organization (university, national laboratory or industry) within Canada or Japan. The winner must attend the conference in person to present their work. Virtual attendance results in 50 % decrease of the award and is acceptable only in exceptional situations, such as a global pandemic preventing travel. If the winner is unable to travel to the conference, the award shall be passed to the runner up or rolled over to the following year at the discretion of CFDM.
応募できる対象者は、大学院生、学部学生、または学位取得後７年以内のポストドクター研究員です。応募者は、カナダまたは日本の機関（大学、国立研究機関、または企業）に所属している必要があります。授与を受ける者は、応募した学術講演会に直接（対面にて）参加し、その研究内容を発表しなければなりません。バーチャル参加は、世界的なパンデミックにより渡航が不可能な場合など、例外的な状況でのみ認められますが、バーチャル参加の場合には、奨励金は50%に減額されます。授与を受ける者が応募した学術講演会に参加できない場合、奨励金は次点の応募者に引き継がれるか、またはCFDMの裁量により、翌年に繰り越されます。
