The Canadian Foundation for the Development of Microscopy (CFDM) has selected the winners of the spring 2022 travel bursary competition.
CFDM is a charitable organization promoting development of microscopy and associated techniques by offering bursaries for students of Canadian universities to assist with travel expenses to participate in national and international conferences and workshops.
The CFDM travel bursaries were awarded to:
Liza-Anastasia DiCecco, a third year PhD student at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, who will attend the 2022 Microscopy and Microanalysis (M&M) meeting in Portland, Oregon, USA, and present a talk titled “Exploring Calcium Phosphate Biomineralization Systems Using In Situ Liquid Phase Electron Microscopy.”
Liza is supervised by Prof. Kathryn Grandfield.
Chiara Micheletti, a third year PhD student at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, who will attend the 2022 Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) and Conference (GRC) on Biomineralization in Castelldefels, Spain, and present her work “Towards a More Complete Understanding of Collagen-Mineral Relationship in Bone at the Mesoscale and Nanoscale.”
Chiara is supervised by Prof. Kathryn Grandfield and Profs. Anders Palmquist and Furqan A. Shah (University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden).
Alyssa Williams, a second year PhD student at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, who will attend the 2022 Microscopy and Microanalysis (M&M) meeting in Portland, Oregon, USA, and present a talk titled “Visualizing Early HCoV-229E Viral Infection Events Using Correlative 2D Light and 3D Electron Microscopy Techniques.”
Alyssa is supervised by Profs. Nabil Bassim and Kathryn Grandfield.
Daniel J. Buss, a final year PhD student at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, who will attend the 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Biomineralization in Castelldefels, Spain and present his work “The avian eggshell membrane interface revealed in 3D by X-ray and FIB-SEM tomography.”
Daniel is supervised by Profs. Marc D. McKee and Natalie Reznikov.
Congratulations to Liza, Chiara, Alyssa, and Daniel!
