The Canadian Foundation for the Development of Microscopy (CFDM) has selected winners of the spring 2024 travel bursary competition.
CFDM is a charitable organization promoting development of microscopy and associated techniques by offering bursaries for students of Canadian universities to assist with travel expenses to participate in national and international conferences and workshops.

The spring 2024 CFDM travel bursaries were awarded to:

Anthony Bilodeau, a PhD student at Laval University (Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Bio-informatics), Québec, QC, to attend the 2024 Focus on Microscopy (FOM2024) conference in Genoa, Italy, and present a poster titled “Enhancing STED microscopy systems through realistic simulation in pySTED.”
Anthony is supervised by Prof. Flavie Lavoie-Cardinal.

Yingming Lai, a PhD student at the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS), (Energy, Materials and Telecommunications Research Center), Québec, QC, who will attend the 2024 Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada, Ottawa, ON, and present a talk titled “Two-dimensional Ultrafast Electron Imaging by Streak-Mode Dynamic Transmission Electron Microscopy.”
Yingming is supervised by Prof. Jinyang Liang.

Zhina Razaghi, a PhD student at the University of Manitoba (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Winnipeg, MB, who will attend the 2024 Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada, Ottawa, ON, and present a poster titled “Controlling the Growth Direction and Morphology of TiO2 Nanowires Through Seed Composition.”
Zhina is supervised by Prof. Guozhen Zhu.

Monica Warner, a PhD student at McMaster University (Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences), Hamilton, ON, who will attend the 2024 Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada, Ottawa, ON, and present a poster titled “Unraveling the role of UvrD1 in Bacterial DNA double-strand break repair using Atomic Force Microscopy.”
Monica is supervised by Prof. Sara Andres.

Caleb Whittier, a PhD student at McMaster University (Department of Materials Science and Engineering), Hamilton, ON, who will attend the 2024 Enhanced Data Generated by Electrons (EDGE) meeting, Vancouver, BC, and present a poster titled “Spectroscopy and Imaging of Dark Infrared Polaritons in CdO Pillars: Coupling, Asymmetry, and Tunability.”
Caleb is supervised by Profs. Nabil Bassim and Maureen Lagos.

Miguel Marquez, a postdoctoral student at the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS), (Energy, Materials and Telecommunications Research Center), Québec, QC, who will attend the 2024 Meeting of the Microscopy Society of Canada, Ottawa, ON, and present his work titled “Compressed ultrafast microscopy using swept coded aperture real-time femtophotography.”
Miguel is supervised by Prof. Jinyang Liang.

Congratulations to the winners!
