Technologist Award

The objective of the MSC/SMC technologist Award is to honor a MSC/SMC member who has made significant contributions to advancement of microscopy research or training through their role as a technologist in a Canadian university, industry, or government.

 

Eligibility: Individual who has made outstanding contributions to the development and/or advancement of microscopy in Canada as a technologist

 

Evaluation Criteria: Outstanding contributions to technical development

 

Frequency: Every two years, awarded in alternate years from the Early Career Award

 

Recipient will receive: $2500 from the MSC/SMC + certificate + travel expenses for annual meeting to receive award

 

Nomination Process: Candidates can be nominated by any member of the MSC/SMC or by self-nomination. Technologists will also submit a letter of support from their direct supervisor.

 

  1. Nominations will be solicited by email sent to all current MSC/SMC members. The nominators will be asked to submit a short supporting statement (~250 words) explaining why they feel the candidate should receive the award. Nominations will be submitted through the MSC/SMC website. The nominations process will be open for 4 weeks.
     
  2. Nominated candidates will be reviewed to confirm they meet the eligibility criteria, and contacted to determine if they accept the nomination. The nominator will provide through the MSC/SMC website:
    • A nomination letter introducing the candidate and explaining his/her achievements to make them deserve this award (2 pages maximum).
    • A copy of their curriculum vitae.
    • A letters of support from their direct supervisor.
